Canvas Workwear Jacket

Workwear was a huge trend among fashion enthusiasts for the 2024 calendar year, and has always been popular among blue collar workers. Fashion YouTuber Drew Joiner put workwear under the timeless category in one of his videos on timeless vs trendy clothing, with a specific focus on clothing that honors classic Americana.
In the 2024 year, vintage Carhartt Detroit jackets were widely popular, as evidenced by sold and completed listing prices, ranging from $200-$400 at its peak.
I began by researching contemporary jackets that are popular, as evidenced by being sold out, or being from brands with a strong legacy.

From there I moved onto examining what these jackets had in common with classic American jackets, popular in workwear. I focused on key features with the classic Levi's denim jacket. This model from the 1950's is notably cropped, being very in line with both the fashion of that time, as well as allowing for more labor mobility. A cropped fit is also very popular in contemporary fashion, with fashion influencers such as Frugal Aesthetic and Parker York Smith frequently emphasizing that it can improve proportions in an outfit.

Research and ideation helped me create a few constraints for my final design.
-
Brown Canvas - fashionable color, durable and can be waterproofed with wax every winter
-
Reinforced portions for comfort and durability
-
Pockets and other storage, designed with intentionality
-
Modern slightly cropped fit
-
Accents that reference current aesthetics, flannel, florals, etc
-
All cotton based fabrics, natural, high quality and sustainable fibers
The final design has many pockets with different intended uses, pen loops, reinforced shoulders and elbows, and a floral lining that can be swapped for different colorways.
The canvas shell is able to be waxed as needed, and is highly durable. The floral lining is soft and warm cotton flannel.
